Fantastic Finds

Not every great discovery fits neatly into a travel guide. Sometimes it's a beautiful city, sometimes it's an incredible meal, or an event worth marking on the calendar. These are the finds that caught my attention and earned a place among my Wayward Drifts.

Beautiful Cities

One of the things I've enjoyed most about living in Portugal is discovering how different each city feels. Some are bustling and energetic, others are quiet and relaxed, but each has its own personality. This collection is my growing list of places I've visited along the way, along with my thoughts, observations, and a few surprises I found during each Wayward Drift.

Lisbon

Lisbon is one of those cities that sneaks up on you. At first, you notice the yellow trams, tiled buildings, and hilltop views. Spend a little more time wandering its streets, you'll discover a city that feels both historic and comfortably lived in. Just bring good walking shoes. I learned that lesson pretty quickly.

Porto

Porto is now at the top of my Portugal wish list. From everything I've seen and heard, it's a city of steep streets (break out the walking shoes again), river views, historic neighborhoods, and a slower pace of life. With summer finally pushing the rain aside and Porto only a train ride away, I have a feeling a Wayward Drift north is coming soon.

Coimbra

Coimbra is the city I now call home, and it didn't take long to understand why people fall in love with it. Built on a hillside overlooking the Mondego River, it's a city of steep streets, new and old neighborhoods, and a beautiful university campus that seems to watch over everything. It's also a city that gives a guy like me a good workout every day without even trying.

Braga

Braga is another city that's been steadily climbing my Portugal wish list. Known for its historic churches, beautiful parks, and relaxed pace of life, it seems to strike a balance between old-world tradition and modern living. From everything I've read, Braga feels less like a place people visit and more like a place people choose to stay.

Lagos

Lagos is one of those places that keeps showing up whenever people talk about life in southern Portugal. Known for its dramatic coastline, relaxed pace, and year-round sunshine, it seems built for anyone who enjoys spending more time outdoors than indoors. From everything I've seen, it's the kind of place where a quick weekend visit could easily turn into a much longer stay.
